Biography
Yolanda Comparan, MSW

I am an adoption professional with nearly 25 years of helping children and families. Even more importantly, I am a mom through adoption. Due to a variety of professional and personal experiences, I am an expert in pre-adoption and adoptive family issues. I have participated in and provided dozens of workshops specifically for adoptive families and adoption professionals.
I lived in California until 1999 when I moved with my family to Washington State following my husband’s retirement from the U.S. Coast Guard. We adopted our now 15 year old son, and 13 year old daughter, each at the age of 39 months, while we lived in San Diego.
I am an educator at heart and get a thrill from helping families find the information, professionals and resources they need. I have provided priceless information, referrals, counseling and education to hundreds of parents and professionals. I have spent much of my professional life doing crisis work with children and teens living at risk on the streets, in gangs and involved in the foster care, the juvenile justice and mental health systems. When I had much more energy, I was the guardian of teen girls struggling to become emancipated from one or more of these systems. I also spent several years responding to crisis and providing training as a civilian working for the U.S. Coast Guard.
I earned a Masters of Social Welfare from UCLA and a Master’s of Organization Management from Antioch University in Santa Barbara. In 2002, I earned my Foster Care and Adoption Therapy Certificate.
Over the years, I have been involved in a variety of charity work, most involving children and families. I continue to support local not-for-profit organizations, again focusing on children and parenting.
Besides being the best parent I can be to my two babies, I gain my greatest satisfaction in helping families and children using my adoption expertise. I maintain the highest ethical standards while helping pre-adoptive families, adoptive families, foster families, kinship families, birth families, and the professionals that work with them.
I pride myself in holding the highest standards for education, consultation and training services for; individuals and couples that want to adopt; those that are parents by adoption; individual professionals; and agency professionals.
